ST. PROSPER, Quebec, Canada — Guy Champagne, 90, of St. Prosper, Quebec, Canada, died Friday, Feb. 23, at the CISSS of Chaudiere-Appalaches in Lac-Etchemin. He suffered from Alzheimer’s for many years.

He was born March 9, 1927, a son of Denis Champagne and Florentine (Gagnon) Champagne and was one of nine children.

He married Marielle (Morin) Champagne and had five children. He was a hard worker and never missed a day of work. He also played hard, enjoying a few drinks with his sons and sons-in-law and daughters on weekends, playing cards and going camping with his Winnebago, and all the while Marielle would cook up a storm, making her great Canadian cuisine. Marielle sadly passed in 2000.

Guy was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Lewiston. Guy moved to Lewiston with his family in 1956, returning and retiring to Canada with his wife in 1989. He was a woodsman from his teen years, working with his father and eventually harvesting and trucking from his wood lots. His son, Gilles, joined him after graduating from high school. His son, Guy, at 5 years old, was found driving his skidder and he was horrified that he was on top of it. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening, but most of all loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his children, Nancy (Rene Fournier), Gilles (Julie Maheux), Diane (John Jochum), Mona (Keith Neureuther), Guy (Tammy Hunter); 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way. Guy has three sisters in Quebec, Collette, Therese and Hugette; and a sister, Georgette, in New Hampshire; a brother, Michael, in Wisconsin.

He was predeceased by sisters Mariette and Yvette, and a brother, Claude.
