Journalism scholarships available for Mainers

ELLSWORTH — The Guy P. Gannett Journalism Scholarship Fund seeks applications from Maine students.

The Gannett Scholarship provides renewable support for students majoring in journalism or a field reasonably related, including print, broadcast or electronic media. The fund helps pay tuition to attend an undergraduate, graduate, trade or technical school.

The deadline for applications is Sunday, April 1. To apply online, go to www.mainecf.org.

Applicants must be graduates of Maine high schools or have been home-schooled in Maine. Students will be chosen based on demonstrated interest in journalism through their choice of coursework and extracurricular activities, as well as financial need and academic achievement.

Mexico Trail Blazers to meet

MEXICO — The Mexico Trail Blazers will hold the monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, downstairs at the Mexico Town Hall. All are welcome to attend.

Society meeting change this month only

FARMINGTON — Farmington Historical Society will meet at noon Saturday, March 24, for a potluck at the North Church, 118 High St. The change is for this month only.

A short meeting will follow. A special tour will be held at 1 p.m. of Origins Co., the new martial arts manufacturing business across from North Church. Everyone is welcome.

Library’s annual Children’s Spring Party

PARIS — The Paris Public Library celebrates the arrival of spring and the season’s holidays with its annual Children’s Spring Party from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at the Deering Memorial Community Center, across Church Street from the library.

The event is free and all children are welcome. Craft activities will include bunny bookmarks, paper flowers and gold slime. The party will also also feature a St. Patrick’s Day/Easter Scavenger Hunt.

Rumford Seniors going to Lincoln, N.H.

PERU — The Rumford Seniors will take a bus trip to Indian Head Resort, Lincoln, New Hampshire, on Friday, May 11, for a buffet and show featuring Jose Duddy.

The bus will leave at 8 a.m. from the Senior Center in Peru. Time at the resort is from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $60. Sign up by Wednesday, April 25.

ATV safety course announced

ROXBURY — A free ATV safety course will be offered from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at Roxbury Town Office.

The course is for ages 10 to 16, and they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. A free lunch will be offered.

The event has been sponsored for more than 10 years by the Mexico Police Department and the Roxbury ATV Club.
