BETHEL — Lawrence W. Davis, 89, of Bethel, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Apr. 4, at his home in Bethel.

He was born June 24, 1928, in West Farmington, the youngest son of, Royal V. and Ethel M. (Craig) Davis. He attended schools in Farmington and later the University of Maine at Farmington, where he played baseball and basketball. Larry was invited to try out his pitching arm for the New York Yankees and then pitched several no-hitters for the semi-pro team the Farmington Flyers.

In 1958, he married the love of his life, Mary Douglass, of Upton. He was well known as the manager of the old A&P and later Prescott Farms in Gorham, New Hampshire. Mary and Larry (“Digger”) enjoyed spending summers at their camp in Upton, which he built in 1964 .

Larry enjoyed following his grandchildren’s ventures and rarely missed one of their sporting events. He also loved his time spent fly fishing, especially with his good friend, Frank Vogt, always claiming to catch the biggest fish. He will be fondly remembered for singing in barbershop quartets, his quiet dedication and loyalty to his family.

Lawrence is survived by his wife, Mary, of Bethel; son and daughter-in-law, Vernon Davis and Tamara of Bethel; a daughter, Ann Blake, and partner, Leo Blais, of Meredith, New Hampshire; a daughter, Perdita Largesse, and husband, Mike, of Errol, New Hampshire; six grandchildren: Miami Blake, Tabitha Perry, Chea Davis Kendall, Bailey Davis Lindgren, Emma Davis and Mark Largesse; great-grandchildren Aria and Tayvin Shufelt, Tuckerman and Timblerlin Perry and Caydence Largesse.
