NORWAY — Merline (Bell) Martin, 97, passed away peacefully at her home in Norway, Tuesday, April 10, with her family by her side. She was born in Waterford on Oct. 17, 1920, the daughter of Charles and Mabel (Bartlett) Bell.
Merline worked at Wilner Wood Products and Francine Shoe Co. early in her life, then she cared for children in her home for many, many years. She belonged to the Stone Smart Legion Auxiliary and volunteered for many things, from cooking for beano to visits to Togus.
Merline was also known for her beautiful knitting, especially baby sweaters, and mending many stuffed animals and toys. She was married to the late Glenn Martin. They traveled to many of the states as well as Europe.
Merline is survived by her two children, Roger Bouchard of Naples, Fla., and Dana Decato of Norway, with whom she resided. She has four grandchildren, Lori Bouchard of South Paris, Denise Bouchard Turner of Woodstock, Chris Decato of Bethel and Shelby Decato of Waterford; eight great-grandchildren, Kyle, Kaycee and Kaleb Edwards, Amy and Jessica Turner, Bailey Wood and Isla and Lucy Decato.
Merline was predeceased by her parents; her husband; her two brothers, George and Robert Bell; and her twin sister, Arline Truman.
