AUBURN — Raymond D. Marcotte, 92, formerly of Lewiston, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 10, at the Hospice House.

He was born in Lewiston, May 31, 1925, the son of Raymond F. and Imelda (Baxter) Marcotte. Raymond was a 1943 graduate of Lewiston High School, following which he joined the United States Navy serving in the North Atlantic on convoy ships during World War II.

Following the war he met and married his wife, the former Theresa C. Lajoie. He began his professional career as an optician, beginning work for his father at Ray Optical Co., where he became owner. Later, he sold his business to Northeast Optical Co., which he managed for 17 years until he opened Ray’s Eyeware Boutique, retiring in 1990.

He was a certified optician member of the FNAO, he served on the board of directors and secretary of Maine Family Credit Union, he was a former member and past president of Lewiston Exchange Club. He was also a member of the American Legion Post in Lewiston.

Raymond enjoyed golf, hunting, bowling and spent winters in Myrtle Beach and Florida.

Survivors include two sons, Roger and wife, Jeannette, of Lisbon, and Robert of Lewiston; one daughter, Louise Bower and husband, Curtis, of Colorado; one brother, Paul Marcotte, of California. Also surviving are five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Theresa, who died on March 24, 2012.
