CHAIN OF PONDS TOWNSHIP — Two tractor-trailers were damaged when they slid off an icy road at Natanis Point early Monday morning.

No injuries were reported to drivers Carl Pepin of Pepin Lumber in Coburn Gore and Francis Boulanger of Canada.

Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols said freezing rain, high winds and black ice contributed to the accident.

Franklin County Deputy Brian McCormick responded to the 5 a.m. accident report and found Pepin’s tractor-trailer on its side in the ditch and its load of logs spilled.

Boulanger’s rig was loaded with plywood and slid into the logging truck while attempting to ascend the same hill as Pepin, Nichols said.

The road was closed because of dangerous conditions. The tractor-trailers were towed by wreckers from Canada.
