SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Marilyn (Seavey) Reilly, 90, of Auburn passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 31, in San Diego, Calif., surrounded by family members.

Marilyn was born in Auburn and graduated from Edward Little High School and the University of Maine-Orono. It was there she met and wed Joseph T. Reilly, fellow student and WWII veteran. They were married for 48 years until his death in 1998.

Marilyn was a proud Mainer and lived the last 46 years in her childhood home at Youngs Corner Road in Auburn. That ended abruptly last June when a devastating fire consumed her house, barn and everything she owned except the clothes she wore and her small dog.

Marilyn was a passionate environmentalist, avid reader and enthusiastic birder. She so loved her dogs, several of whom were rescued from the local shelter. Marilyn was also fiercely independent, and she and her dog, Maggie, could be found traveling cross-country together in her station wagon, often following historic paths such as those of Lewis and Clark.

Marilyn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and is survived by her son, daughter and their spouses, Jay and Susan Reilly of Milton, Ga., and Beth and Patrick Mallon of San Diego, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Ben Fletcher, Sam Fletcher, Joe Reilly, Patrick Mallon, Tommy Mallon, Matt Reilly, Jeff Mallon and Sam Reilly; one great-granddaughter, Maizy Fletcher; dear cousins, Nan Cone, Chuck and Bobbie Woodman, Tom Woodman and Doug Libby; her son-in-law, Ralph A. Fletcher, and Marie Veselsky.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; daughter, Lyn Fletcher; and granddaughter, Emily Fletcher.
