ANSWER: With all this ridiculously cold weather we’ve had, it’s refreshing to know someone is thinking about gardening and what’s to come!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you for spreading the word about the Dumpster Diving Divas at the Lisbon Transfer Station last month. Unfortunately, Mother Nature did not cooperate and we were unable to spend the entire day as planned. By noon our lips were frozen, the wind was blowing us sideways and likely our other extremities were frozen except we couldn’t feel them so we called it a day! A few hardy souls did stop by and some have mailed us their Box Tops, for which we are very grateful.

We are going to try again this coming Saturday, April 21, from 7 a.m.to 3 p.m. at the Transfer Station in Lisbon. Divas (and their offspring) will be collecting Box Tops and selling raffle tickets to benefit educational programs at the Philip W. Sugg Middle School. We invite folks to stop by, see all the goodies they might win and drop off any Box Tops. Remember, each Box Top is worth 10 cents and every dime adds up quickly!

If folks prefer, they can mail Box Tops to the Dumpster Diving Divas, PWS PAG, 4 Sugg Drive, Lisbon Falls, ME 04252 or they can call one of the Divas at 207-462-2274 to arrange for pick-up.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have a box full of unused cards and envelopes (more envelopes than cards, I think). Is there any place where I could donate them? I do not really want to throw them away if someone could use them. Thank you.

ANSWER: Once again, I have to tell our readers about the amazing SHAREcenter, a nonprofit program that collects tons of materials from business and industry for reuse by schools or other educational programs. It is in Auburn at 33 Industry Ave. The hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1 to 6 p.m. and the first and second Saturday of each month, 9 a.m. to noon.

There is a second location in Topsham at 376 Republic Ave., which is open Wednesdays from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. and the third Saturday of each month, 9 a.m. to noon.

By paying a nominal annual fee, teachers partner with the SHAREcenter to have access to all kinds of usable donated items. You’ll find paper of all kinds, office supplies and even furniture, writing implements, binders and notebooks, lanyards, baseball hats, T-shirts, bookbags, fabric, yarn, crafting items, books, puzzles, games, teaching guides, wood pieces, tiles and almost anything else you can imagine.
