AUBURN — Sister Dolores (Rolande) Cyr, O.P., born in Lewiston, Feb. 13, 1947, the daughter of Roland and Theresa (Morin) Cyr, died Friday, April 13, at the Hospice House in Auburn, at the age of 71.

Sister Dolores was baptized at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Lewiston and confirmed at Sacred Heart Church in Auburn. Entering the Dominican Sisters in 1979, she received her initial formation in Iowa City, Iowa, where she made her first religious profession in 1982, in Sabattus.

Sister Dolores was the oldest of nine children and stayed home to help her parents raise them before joining the Dominican Sisters. Following her initial formation, she began her ministry as a health care provider. She served in this capacity as a nurses’ aide in different nursing home facilities in Iowa City, Des Moines and Riverside, Iowa, and in Lewiston. She also served her community as local treasurer.

In 2010, Sister Dolores returned to Maine to take care of her mother. She was assigned to the Sabattus Community and provided that service to her family with much care and compassion.

Sister Dolores was predeceased by her parents; and a sister, Dolores.

She is survived by her brothers, Robert and Teresa Cyr, Rosaire and Linda Cyr, Joseph and Denise Cyr, John and Belinda Cyr; her sisters, Gloria Cormier, Louise and Dan Moreau, Susan Cyr; several nieces, nephews, aunts; and her Dominican Community.

Her Dominican Sisters thank Sister Dolores for her years of faithful service. They also want to express their gratitude to the staffs at Bolster Residential Care Facility and the Hospice House. A special thank-you also to the Hospice nurses who cared for Sister Dolores daily with such patience and understanding.
