JAY — Voters in Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls approved an $18.8 million Regional School Unit 73 budget Tuesday.
The results were:
• Jay, 271 yes, 208 no
• Livermore, 65 yes, 41 no
• Livermore Falls, 54 yes, 24 no
Although the 2018-19 budget is about $750,000 more than the 2017-18 fiscal year, taxpayers in the three towns will be paying $1.44 million less than last year.
Superintendent Kenneth Healey noted at the school district budget meeting of April 5 that $522,000 more than expected in state subsidy was returned to taxpayers to keep taxes down. That, in part, is why taxpayers in the three towns will pay less than last year, he said.
Jay’s share is down $1.39 million from last year, while Livermore has seen a $41,309 decrease and Livermore Falls a $7,971.11 decrease in assessments.
The budget includes $183,000 for a behavioral program in grades 2 to 5, and $300,000 for energy efficiencies and facilities upgrades at four schools.
