LEWISTON — Police said a 6-month-old boy was found dead Wednesday at a local apartment and was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for an autopsy.

Although the death does not appear to be suspicious, Lt. David St. Pierre said standard protocol requires Maine State Police to investigate all deaths of anyone younger than 3 years old and for an autopsy to be ordered.

“It’s obviously an untimely death,” he said.

Emergency crews responded to a report of a cardiac arrest at 6:40 a.m. Wednesday at 27 Marston St., St. Pierre said Thursday.
