The Lisbon Area Christian Outreach Food Pantry in Lisbon Falls will hold its semiannual Food Drive, Bake Sale and Bottle Drive from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, May 11, and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Food City on Route 196 in Lisbon Falls.

We are in need of all the help we can get. We need bakers for our bake sale, nonperishable food items and redeemable bottles and cans. It all can be dropped off at Food City by 9 a.m. Friday, May 11.

We are also in need of cash donations to keep the pantry running. Please make checks payable to LACO Food Pantry. If you cannot drop off any goods or donations, please call Bert at 207-216-3460 before Thursday, May 10, and I will gladly pick them up.

We are an all-volunteer organization and depend solely on food and cash donations. We are run by nine area churches from Lisbon, Lisbon Falls, Durham and Bowdoin, and we feed approximately 295 families a month with a total of 565 adults and 324 children. We often need to buy meat, canned goods and supplies at local supermarkets at their prices with no discounts, so it can be very costly.

Our operating hours at the pantry are Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon and Saturdays from 8 to 10 a.m.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m looking for someone who sharpens push (reel) lawn mowers. I have been told by several people that there is a person in Topsham, but they don’t have contact information. I’m hoping you or your readers can help me out. Thank you. I love your column.

ANSWER: You’ve come to the right place for your answer, Betty! Bob at Mainely Saws is the person you are looking for! He’ll take care of that mower. In business for more than 30 years, Bob also sharpens garden tools, kitchen knives, scissors, axes, chain saws and all other kinds of saws. His phone number is 207-729-4864. Mainely Saws is open Tuesday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: A couple months ago there was an article in the Sun Journal referring to an octogenarian in Hartford whose home was destroyed in a fire. If the origin of the fire was published, I missed it. She had many artifacts.

ANSWER: The article regarding the fire that destroyed the home and barn belonging to town historian Lorraine Parsons was published in the Sun Journal on Friday, Feb. 16. In the story, it was stated that the origin of the fire, which was determined to have started in the “L” section of the building between the house and barn, couldn’t be determined because of the extensive damage. What matters most is that Lorraine and her cows escaped safely.
