JAY — Grace Harmatys made a key catch in the seventh inning that allowed Spruce Mountain to pull out a narrow 4-3 victory over Hall-Dale in a hard-fought softball tilt on Wednesday.

Callie Baker and Hailee Perkins led the Phoenix (2-2) with two hits apiece. Hannah Turcotte scattered six hits in seven innings to earn the win.

Jill Whynot led the Bulldogs (2-2) with a solo home run in the second inning, while Grace Begin and Riley Johnson each belted out two hits.

Fryeburg 13, St. Dom’s 1 (5 inn.)

FRYEBURG — Emelia DeSanctis gave up four hits and one run in five innings of work as Fryeburg shut down St. Dom’s,13-1 in an early-season softball tilt Wednesday.

Morgan Fusco and Cameron O’Connell led the Raiders (3-2) with three hits each, while Jade Currier-Graffam chipped in with a pair of hits.

Lucy Freotte led the Saints (2-2) with a single and one RBI. Skye Rogers suffered the loss after going the distance.

Yarmouth 7, Poland 3

YARMOUTH — Ceanne Lyon scattered seven hits and drew adequate run support as Yarmouth rolled to a 7-3 victory over Poland in more local softball action.

Cate Ralph led the Clippers (1-2) with three hits and three RBIs, highlighted by a home run. Tasha Powers also contributed with two doubles and two RBIs.

The Knights were paced by Amanda’lyn Gagne with a double and s single, while Morgan Brousseau ripped a two-run single in the top of the third.

Monmouth 20, Mt. Abram 3

MONMOUTH — Mariah Herr scattered four hits and drew all kinds of run support Wednesday as Monmouth overpowered Mt. Abram, 20-3, in more early-season softball action.

Emily Chasse and Mackenzie Boucher led the Mustangs (3-1) with three hits each, while Herr, Haylee Langlois and Erin Gosselin each belted out two hits.

Hailey Walker went the distance for Mt. Abram (0-6) and suffered her first loss.

Telstar 12, Dirigo 6

DIXFIELD — Kylee Martin struck out seven batters for Telstar en route to a 12-6 win over Dirigo in a Class C South softball game on Wednesday.

Ashley Perrault of Dirigo (1-4) threw six strikeouts but walked 13, leading to the loss.

Telstar (2-1) scored three runs in the first inning, two in the second and the third to pull away from Dirigo. Aneah Bartlett hit a single and a double, while Julia Cherkis hit two singles for Telstar.

In the third inning, Dirigo scored five runs with the help of Alexa Varnum’s two RBIs and also Perrault who hit two singles in the game.

Leavitt 3, Morse 1

BATH — Leavitt scored three in the first inning thanks to a double from Leah Mahuex that scored two and the Hornets never looked back, defeating Morse 3-1 in a Class B South softball matchup Wednesday.

Leavitt’s Maheux gave up just one run in the second and finished her outing with four strikeouts. Diony Kulis of Morse (4-2) gave up three runs on five hits with four strikeouts in the loss.

Kassie Murch hit two singles with an RBI, while Hannah DeBlois hit a double for Leavitt (2-4). Abby Carpenter had the lone RBI for Morse.

Baseball

Traip 4, Gray-New Gloucester 3

KITTERY — In the bottom of the seventh, Traip’s Charlie Driscoll hit a single to score Teddy Driscoll to defeat Gray-New Gloucester 4-3 in a baseball matchup Wednesday.

Bobby Lane of Traip (4-1) went 3-3 with three singles and also got the win retiring two batters in the seventh. Shane MacNeil pitched six and a third innings for Telstar giving up three runs.

Gray-NG was led by Nick McCann who had a single and a double with two RBI in the loss.

Dirigo 12, Telstar 2

DIXFIELD — Wyatt Lufkin pitched a complete game for Dirigo giving up two runs, one earned, in Dirigo’s 12-2 win over Telstar in a Class C South baseball matchup Wednesday.

Cam Turner had a double and a single to lead Dirigo, while Chandler Redmond also had two singles. Dirigo had just two hitters with more than one hit in the game.

Zach Hill of Telstar got the loss but led his team with three hits.

Winthrop 12, Bridgeway 6

WINTHROP — Winthrop erupted for eight runs in the third inning and hung on to record a 12-6 victory over Bridgeway in an early-season baseball tilt Wednesday.

Jackson Ladd led the Ramblers with three hits and two RBIs, while Carson Cammick drove in a run on two hits.

Evan Bess led Bridgeway with three hits and one RBI. Greg Fay earned the mound win, while Evan Holtsworth suffered the loss.

Mt. Abram 8, Monmouth 6

SALEM — Nate Luce smacked a three-run double in the fourth inning to propel Mt. Abram to a 8-6 baseball victory over Monmouth on Wednesday.

Luke Kearing contributed for the Roadrunners (3-3) with a home run in the fourth. Avery Pomerleau led the Mustangs (2-2) with a solo homer in the fourth frame.

Luce earned the mound win after working the first six innings, while Nick Dovinsky suffered the loss.

Yarmouth 13, Poland 2

POLAND — Yarmouth erupted for seven runs in the second frame and raced away to post a 13-2 baseball victory over Poland on Wednesday.

Jackson Caruso led the Clippers (3-1) with two hits and three RBIs, while Ben Norton and Graden Coulfield each belted out two hits.

The Knights (1-5) utilized Gowin Tibbetts on the mound during the first two innings.
