RUMFORD — Regional School Unit 10 directors Monday hired staff member  Tom Danylik as assistant principal and athletic director for Mountain Valley High School.

He will begin July 1.

Danylik has been a special education teacher at the school for 10 years and a varsity boys’ basketball coach and an assistant athletic director for the past six years.

“I’ve always wanted to spread my wings a bit and get out of my comfort zone,” Danylik said after the meeting.

He will succeed Al Cayer, who is retiring from the two positions.

The board also hired Carlos Ochoa as a part-time district English Language Learner teacher for the 2018-19 school year.

“He is also a certified Spanish teacher so we’re excited to have an experienced person,” Superintendent Deborah Alden said. Ochoa is an ESL teacher at Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield.

Paula Thibodeau was hired as administrative assistant to the director of buildings, grounds and transportation, Scott Holmes.

“We’re definitely excited about having her join us,” Alden said. “She used to do this similar job for transportation and building and grounds down in Auburn.”

Resignations accepted are: Wilton LaRose, effective at the end of this school year; Deborah Briggs, effective June 30, Helen Storer, effective June 30, Kevin Kaulback, effective Aug. 1; and Danylik’s assistant coaching position, effective May 8.

The board approved a Project Graduation celebration for the Class of 2018 on June 7 at Mt. Cranmore in North Conway, New Hampshire.

Senior class officers Hailey Akers, Abbie Blauvelt, Lauren Sterling and Brooke Carver told directors that students will enjoy rides, zip lines, games and prizes.
