DEAR SUN SPOTS: Clean Sweep, the giant yard sale held at Bates College, is still looking for volunteers who would like to earn money for their nonprofit organization. We need adults who can organize, sort and price the items that will fill the Bates Hockey rink on sale day,  June 16. Please go to bates.edu, type in Clean Sweep in the search box, and complete the form before May 12. You will be contacted this month with the dates and times your volunteers will be working. DEAR SUN SPOTS: I want to let you know what happened to me recently. I had to go to Food City to get milk, bread and hot dogs. When I went to pay for my purchase, the gentleman who was ahead of me had paid for my groceries. I was just speechless. I had the money in my wallet and did want to pay, but the cashier told me it was all paid for.

All I can say is, “Thank you, sir.” I didn’t know the man, only that he drove a red pickup truck. I thought I would let you know about it because I always read in your writings about how others report such kindness, too. Thank you again, sir. God bless you and keep you safe.

ANSWER: I think it’s important to publish these acts of kindness. There is far too much negativity in the world, and people who show total strangers that they care need to be recognized. DEAR SUN SPOTS: I know you have had letters in the past about people who repair clocks, but I didn’t keep the information. I would appreciate it if you could tell us again. The clock we have is a 1776-1996 bicentennial chime clock. It has been running, but when my husband rewinds it, it won’t stay going. He thinks it may need cleaning.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: A few weeks ago there was an article in the Sun Journal regarding using old wedding gowns for burial shrouds for babies. If this was in Sun Spots, I would like to see it repeated for the contact information.
