HARTFORD — Mark “Sparky” A. Welch passed away peacefully Saturday, May 5, at home with his wife, Joan, his loyal companion, Max, and family and friends by his side.

Mark is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Joan; his stepson, Scott Hinckley, and fiance, Heather, of Portland; and four grandchildren, Dominik, Dylan, Tyler and Nicky; his siblings Linda Powell of Colorado, James Powell of Orrington, Kenneth and Ann Powell of Rumford, Joseph and Julie Welch of Winthrop, Norma and Doug Card of Old Orchard Beach and Jackie and Wayne Bates of Wales.

Also surviving, his extended family on his wife’s side: five sisters- and brothers-in-law, Jean and Mark of Auburn, Jane and George of Texas, Jenny and Greg of Lisbon, Jessie (his soap opera buddy) of Auburn and Joyce and Butch of Florida, all of whom loved him as a brother; Joan’s parents Jim and Nellie Williams of Auburn; and many nieces and nephews.

Mark is predeceased by his mother, Shirley A. Welch, and by Kayla Powell, his “niece.”

Mark was born March 18, 1963, in Lewiston to Shirley and Norman Welch. He attended Winthrop schools. As an adult, he worked at Morrissey as an asbestos remover for many years.

Mark loved racing cars and watching races. He loved to watch wrestling and he especially loved all of his animals. He was always willing to help anyone and everyone and will be remembered fondly for his quick wit and smirk.

We would like to thank Jerry Rockwell and Vicki O’Connor for being there. We are grateful for your assistance.
