To the Editors: I notice that the manager of our electric railroad has applied to the Public Utility Court for permission to boost the price of a ride from five up to seven cents. This rather puts the Cumberland Light and Power Company in the shade. They only ask to raise the price one cent to pay the interest on the enormous volume of watered stock. It appears from the Portland hearing that all those companies are “assisted” by one stock broker in New York. I am a bit puzzled to understand what it all means. Can it be possible that our local company has more watered stock than the Portland company?

The mothers pointed out there was also a need for better communication among parents living in the city’s tenement areas, relative to what programs are available.
