LEWISTON — The Lewiston Farmers’ Market has extended hours and will have a longer season at its Bates Mill 5 summer location. Now operating from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the market will be open every Sunday through Oct. 28. The market occurs weekly in the municipal parking lot on the corner of Lincoln and Main streets adjacent to the Bates Mill 5.
Visitors can shop with more than 20 new and returning vendors selling farm fresh vegetables, seasonal fruit, grass-fed beef, chicken, lamb, pork, artisan cheese and dairy, homemade baked goods, gluten-free products, maple products, fresh cut flowers, perennial plants, handcrafted soap and local arts and crafts.
As in years past, the market is hosting live music and family friendly activities, including the Market Kids Club during July and August. The Kids Club is supported by Healthy Androscoggin and Maine SNAP-Ed, and kids can explore healthy local foods and get tokens to buy fresh fruit and veggies from vendors.
The market is also running the “Market Rewards” program, whereby loyal customers will receive a gift certificate after five visits to the market, and the seniors and veterans program, where seniors 62 and over and veterans of any age will receive a gift certificate to the market every first Sunday of the month.
Lastly, the Lewiston Farmers’ Market has joined markets across the state in offering the “Maine Harvest Bucks” program, which provides SNAP/EBT users with bonus fresh fruits and vegetables. For more information on the Maine Harvest Bucks program, visit maineharvestbucks.org/ or call 207-513-3848.
Both the Kids Club and Seniors and Veterans Program would not be possible without support from community and business sponsors. To learn more about program sponsors as well as the market, visit lewistonfarmersmarket.com, lewistonfarmersmarket@gmail.com or 207-513-3848.
The market is sponsored by St. Mary’s Nutrition Center, a local and statewide resource dedicated to promoting community health through organizing, advocacy and education.
