AUBURN — On May 29, the gates of heaven opened to receive a loving, dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Oh, how we will miss her. … Surrounded by her loved ones at her daughter’s home in Auburn, she lost her battle with pancreatic cancer; but she fought every day to stay alive in order to spend just one more day with her family here on Earth, and now we are left with broken hearts but with beautiful memories. She will forever live in our hearts and we will carry her with us everywhere we go.
Shirley D. Mailloux was born July 1, 1935, in Auburn, daughter of the late Ludger Duchette and Marianna Leclair Duchette. She attended school in Lewiston. On July 18, 1953, she married Maurice Mailloux in Lewiston. During their 64 years of marriage, they were devoted to each other, their family and the service of others throughout the community.
Shirley Mailloux served in the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary as president. She also served in the Emblem Lady of Elks Lodge 528 as president and at the state level. She traveled throughout different states to raise money for different charities. Shirley was also a member of American Legion Auxiliary and Ladies VFW Auxiliary. She helped many organizations through her community to raise money for cancer, food baskets, children’s Christmas and many, many other things.
Shirley was an active member of St. Phillips Church; she loved spending time with her grandchildren and family; she was well-known and loved by all.
Surviving her are her husband, Maurice Mailloux; three daughters: Diane Cherilla and husband, Mark; Barbara Mailloux; and Sandra Hersom, two sons: Raymond Mailloux and fiancee, Bobbi Nichols, and Michael Mailloux and wife, Peggy; 11 grandchildren: Jay Nadeau and wife, Martha; Kathryn Nadeau; Mark Cherilla Jr.; Sandy Luna and husband, Jason; Amy Bonilla; Lisa Gregoire and husband, Scott; Brianna Gagnon and husband, Ethan; Randy Mailloux and wife, Crystal; Doustin Mailloux; Jake Mailloux; Josh Mailloux and fiancee, Kaley; 14 great-grandchildren; as well as two sisters: Irene Boilard and Theresa Cote; and sister-in-law, Louise Giroux.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by nine sisters: Rita Lavoie, Lucienne Carbonneau, Germaine Clouter, Corona Lamontagne, Elsie Morin, Marie Rose Hould, Olivette Nadeau, Alfreda Morency and Jeanetta Fontaine; and one brother, Rolando Duchette.
