RUMFORD — Allan H. Austin, 88, of Rumford died Wednesday, May 30, at the Maine Veterans Home IN South Paris. He was a resident of Franklin Street in Rumford.

He was born June 23, 1929, in Mexico, the son of Elery “Doc” and Frances (Brown) Austin. Allan was a graduate of Mexico High School, class of 1948. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a corporal from 1951 to 1953. He worked for Farrar-Brown and then Steego Auto Parts as a manager.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, picking berries and going for rides to see moose and deer.

Allan was married in Dixfield on March 9, 1974, to Patricia Philbrick, who survives of Rumford. Other survivors include a stepdaughter, Laurie Latendresse, and husband, Dennis, of Sydney; a stepson, Gregory Rivard, and fiancee, Marlene Alvarado, of California; seven step-grandchildren; and 13 step-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two brothers Donald and Ralph Austin; a sister, Laura Noyes; and a stepdaughter, Debbie Rivard Gates, and her husband, Larry.
