AUGUSTA — Everett V. Tufts, age 90, died Sunday, May 27, in Augusta. He was born in Lewiston on June 21, 1927, the son of Fred and Alice (Vickery) Tufts.
Mr. Tufts grew up in Auburn, attended local schools, graduating from Edward Little High School, and attended Coburn Classical Institute and Bates College.
He served honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II, stationed in the Philippines.
Mr. Tufts married his wife of 61 years, Elaine (McLaughlin) Tufts, in 1953.
They moved to Connecticut in 1957, where he worked for the state of Connecticut as assistant chief of income maintenance, retiring in 1989.
He was predeceased by his wife, Elaine; two brothers: Richard F. and Kenneth H. Tufts; and his sister, Rose Thurston.
He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Nanalis, and her husband, Fortune, of Ventura, Calif.; two grandchildren: Catherine and Dominic; and several nieces and nephews.
