JAY — Eight juniors from Spruce Mountain High School have been selected as delegates to attend American Legion Auxiliary Department of Maine’s 72nd Annual Dirigo Girls’ State, June 17-22, at Husson College in Bangor.
Dirigo Girls’ State is a non-partisan opportunity for young women to learn about responsible citizenship in a democratic society. Delegates role-play campaigns and elections for local, county and state government. The operational process under which state government functions, the bill writing process, the role of lobbyists and the judiciary are also explored.
Linda Davis, American Legion George Bunten Post 10, Livermore Falls, Girls’ State Chairman presented certificates to the girls last Thursday morning.
Each of the delegates is active in sports or school activities. They are:
Emily White, Livermore Falls, is the daughter of Travis and Darcy White. She plays field hockey, track and basketball. She is an Olympia leader and a peer tutor. She is enrolled in AP and Honors classes.
Brooke Buote, Jay, is the daughter of Pam and Adam Buote. She plays field hockey and softball.
Haley Turcotte, Livermore, is the daughter of Joel and Jamie Turcotte. She plays golf, basketball and softball. She is enrolled in AP and Honors classes.
Anna Bradford, Jay, is the daughter of Andrea Bradford. She plays soccer, does cheering and is a member of the band.
Julianne Doiron, Jay, is the daughter of Steve Doiron and Jane Toncer. She plays field hockey and softball. She is enrolled in AP and Honors classes.
Hannah Maurais, Jay, is the daughter of Philip and Stacie Maurais. She plays field hockey and does cheering.
Paige Hutton, Fayette, is the daughter of Joe and Renada Hutton. She plays field hockey and softball.
Natalie Luce, Jay, is the daughter of Randy and Mary Luce. She plays tennis and is a member of Envirothon and the robotics team. She is an Olympia leader.
