Alpine and Cottage streets

What happened: Selectmen approved the lowest bid for the Alpine and Cottage streets paving project, pending voter approval.

What it means: The contract was awarded to All States Asphalt for $169,146. F.R. Carroll Inc.’s bid was $175,160, Lane Construction’s was $198,250, Pike Industries’ was $199,755 and Glidden Excavating and Paving’s was $203,705. This is a joint project between Norway and Paris. Norway’s share for the paving is $53,595.

What’s next: Voters will weigh in on the entire Alpine Street project, which includes installing a storm drain and a sidewalk, and is more than $60,000 under budget. Residents will vote on the spending plan at annual town meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, June 18, at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School in Paris.

Paving

What happened: Selectmen approved the lowest paving bid for the Shedd, Bill Howe and Roberts roads projects, pending voter approval.

What it means: All States Asphalt was the lowest bidder at $57,637. Lane Construction’s bid was $60,100, F.R. Carroll’s was $68,280, Pike Industries’ was $69,100 and Glidden Excavating & Paving’s was $70,081. The work will be the final paving on the roads.

What’s next: Voters will weigh in on the project at the annual town meeting Monday, June 18.

Sewer abatements

What happened: Selectmen approved three sewer abatements after department Superintendent Shawn Brown explained the situations.

What it means: Only Chairman Warren Sessions, Russell Newcomb and Bruce Cook voted for the $15,619 abatement for 4 Woodland Drive for an ongoing issue with a broken pipe, which has been replaced. The entire board approved the $4,881 abatement for the Guy E. Rowe School, which also had a broken pipe, and $191 for 21 Green St. for a lawn that was put in. While customers pay for the water, they are given abatements because the water is not treated and does not go into the sewer system.

Events

What happened: Selectmen approved three annual events and waived the licensing fee.

What it means: There will be three free dance performances from Nevaeh Dance Studio in the town square opn the following Thursdays: June 21, July 19 and Aug. 23. Part of Deering Street will be closed. The 11th annual Norway Triathlon is Saturday, July 14, and the third annual Foothills Food Festival is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 11, when part of Deering Street will be closed.
