I am rather upset with Maine’s elected officials. I don’t think they are doing their job. I read in the Sun Journal that the Speaker of the House had held up many major bills that would have helped veterans and the elderly. And when will the expansion of Medicaid be enacted?

I admit that there is some waste in the welfare system. Officials should look into that. I don’t believe that young people who could work should be eligible for such things as food stamps and such. If they are truly down and out, there are many “soup kitchens” where they could get a meal. Leave welfare funds for the elderly and others who can’t work and really need it.

Elected officials should realize that, as in any relationship, they have to compromise. I am sick of the in-fighting and partisanship. They were elected to get things done for the people of Maine.
