RUMFORD — Paul J. Gallant, 99, affectionately known to his close friends as “Paun,” changed his residence to Heaven on Wednesday, June 13, where he joined Annie, his beloved wife of 48 years, who passed in December 1996.

Born in Rumford on Jan. 23, 1919, Paul was the eldest son of a large family by John P. and Mary Ann (Pineau) Gallant, of which he was the last survivor.

Paul made his home and raised his family in Mexico. He worked at the Rumford Paper Mill operating the print shop for 44 years. Retiring in 1981, he went on to happily live life with his family. Paul enjoyed working with his hands, whether it be remodeling or knitting. He loved travel adventures, family gatherings and a nice relaxing swim at the end of the day.

He is survived by his three children, Timothy J. Gallant and wife Jan of Hermon, Linda A. Bradley and husband Ron of North Bend, Wash., and Paula (PJ) Cayer and husband Paul of Rumford; two granddaughters, Amy Gallant and companion Collin of Brooklyn, Mass., and Erica Whitten and husband Andrew, with three great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Brooke and Sara of Corrina; many near and dear nieces and nephews.

He was a beloved husband and father, a wonderful grampy and a very smitten great-grampy.

He will be very missed … until we meet again.
