100 years ago, 1918

The Bistany Show, now drawing crowds to Post Office Square, Auburn, is a miniature Coney Island. The glamour of many lights, the spell thrown by the surging throngs, the gaiety of the children on the Merry Go-Round and the Ferris Wheel, the excitement of innumerable semi-gambling devices common to fairs and sporting resorts, some excellent side-shows presenting novel features and at least one cheap enough to be run out of town — to the nearest one-piece bathing-suit resort — this is the truth about Bistany’s. It is making money — heaps of it — for itself, and a little for the Auburn public market, by arrangement with the city fathers.

50 years ago, 1968

Several Lewiston High School students and others from the Lewiston-Auburn area, who are involved in putting out school newspapers or yearbooks, are attending a workshop this week at the University of Maine at Orono.

25 years ago, 1993

The Lewiston Planning Board will seek public input Tuesday on a proposed truck route study for the Twin Cities, Sabattus and Lisbon. The Lewiston Auburn Comprehensive Traffic Study a group that represents the four communities, has identified three objectives for its upcoming examination: — To develop a system of truck routes for vehicles that neither begin nor end their trips here — To develop a system of local truck routes for trips within the LACTS region — To develop recommendations for informational and regulatory signs to advise and direct truck operators in proper use of the LACTS area truck network.
