I want to congratulate the volunteers and voters of Maine who make the state’s motto, “Dirigo,” a reality. Maine truly leads the way in helping people realize the true meaning of the word democracy — a representative government for all people.

Ranked-choice voting is far from a liberal “conspiracy” or “a secret agreement to carry out an unlawful act.” Rather, it is a way to obtain the government that most closely represents the will of the majority of voters.

“Divide and conquer” was the way special interests gained power. Like gerrymandering by both parties, it was how groups gained disproportionate advantage to get or keep political advantage.

The people of Maine don’t need to rehash the past; they need to lead the way to make the government responsive to the needs of all.

People should be able to vote for their hopes, not their fears.
