PERU — James Vernon Weston Jr. was born Jan. 21, 1962, to James Vernon Weston Sr. and Janet Marie Scott at Rumford Community Hospital in Rumford. He passed at his home in Peru on Tuesday, June 26. He joined his wife in heaven, who passed July 6, 2017.

At the age of 17, James enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served as an active-duty Marine for 21 years. Prior to leaving Maine, James had met his soul mate, Deena Jean Gammon. He brought her along on his journey to California where they married and had four children: James, Joshua, Tiffanie and Brittanie.

He was stationed in Coronado, Calif., but served his country across the world, and it is estimated he had about 12 years of overseas deployment. He was a decorated Marine holding several leadership positions and earning many awards.

The most memorable thing about James was he was extremely dedicated to his family and those he loved. He would often take on second and sometimes third jobs to always ensure his family had everything they needed. When he became a grandfather, his life took on new meaning. He was never happier than when he held and played with his grandchildren.

He always had a smile on his face and would be the jokester of the party. He loved his dog Brodie, and was an avid bass fisherman.

He is survived by James Weston Sr. and Nancy Theriault; his sister, Janie; his three brothers, Jason, Jeffrey and Joey; his sons James and Joshua; his daughters Tiffanie and Brittanie; and his grandchildren Rowan, Oliver, Weston, Aria and Evelyn.
