PARIS — Edith is the featured pet at Responsible Pet Care — and she is a hoot.
She pretends not to be interested in what is going on around her, but she will purr up a storm even when she is trying to ignore shelter staff members — that’s a calico’s personality.
Edith is a Golden Feline, the name the caregivers at Responsible Pet Care have given to senior cats. A cat is considered to be a senior when it reaches the age of 8 years. In most cases, senior cats are very social and still willing to play. They know how it feels to be loved and want to be someone’s special pet again.
The situation that brought Edith to the shelter is very similar to that of many of the seniors that reside there. They were a beloved pet for many years until their person went into long-term care or passed away.
Community members shouldn’t be afraid to adopt a senior pet. They have many years of love to give. In Edith’s case, she has many years to love — and ignore — her future companion.

Responsible Pet Care of Oxford Hills is a no-kill, nonprofit shelter and adoption center for cats and dogs, and the holding area for stray dogs for 12 towns in Oxford County. The shelter is located at 9 Swallow Road in Paris.
Anyone interested in adopting a pet from RPC can visit the shelter as follows: Monday and Tuesday closed; Wednesday and Thursday noon to 4 p.m.; Friday and Saturday noon to 5 p.m.; Sunday noon to 4 p.m.
Most of the adoptable pets and the adoption application can be found online on the shelter’s website at www.responsiblepetcare.org.
Responsible Pet Care operates a thrift shop called Pawsibilities. It is located at 132 Waterford Road in Norway and is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Donations of clean, usable household items are accepted during shop hours. All the money raised at Pawsibilities supports RPC.
