Turner man charged after chase in Oxford

OXFORD — A Turner man was arrested Thursday after crashing his car and leading police on a chase through the woods in Norway and Oxford.

Oxford Police Officer Zach Bisson said Cody Parsons, 24, was charged with eluding an officer and driving to endanger, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and operating with a suspended license.

Bisson said he was driving on Pottle Road in Oxford when he came upon Parsons at the intersection of Coldwater Brook Road.

“I noticed that his sticker had expired in 2014,” Bisson said. “He started heading toward Norway, and the second I put my lights on, he started flooring it.”

Parsons turned on Eddie Kahkonen Road, drove over a lawn and crashed into a telephone pole, Bisson said.

“He jumped out of the car while it was still moving,” Bisson said. “(Parsons) ended up running into the woods.”

Bisson said he, Oxford Police Sgt. Rickie Jack, Norway and Paris police, Oxford County deputies and Maine State Police troopers tracked Parsons through the woods for about two hours.

“We had a lot of help from the public, in terms of identifying him and letting us know when he ran through their lawn,” Bisson said. “He ran through Norway, and eventually, we caught him at the Oxford Fairgrounds” off Pottle Road.

Parsons was taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital to be treated for lacerations on his hand from climbing over a fence. He was then taken to the Oxford County Jail in Paris.

Bisson said Parsons was on probation at the time of his arrest.
