AUBURN — Bethelyn Sweatt Fushimi, 91, passed away Monday, July 16, at the Sarah Frye Home in Auburn, where she had resided for the past four years.

Beth was born in New Gloucester on May 8, 1927. She was the daughter of Dr. Linwood Sweatt and his wife, Vivian Marden Sweatt. She graduated in 1945 from Edward Little High School in Auburn.

Beth taught in the Auburn and Gray-New Gloucester school systems. She coached the Gray-New Gloucester junior high girls’ cheerleading team for a number of years. Beth especially cherished her time working with the children of Pathways in Auburn. Beth enjoyed moving and seeking out new adventures. She lived in Auburn, Sabbathday Lake in New Gloucester, Cape Elizabeth, Gray, Poland, Hartland, Newport, Naples, Jonesboro, Buxton and finally returning to Auburn. Beth enjoyed living near the ocean, where she could walk the beaches to collect shells, rocks and sea glass.

Beth is survived by her son, Stephen Driscoll, of New Gloucester, and his wife, Althea; her daughter, Diane Harvey, of Waterville; a niece, Suzan Hawkins, of New Gloucester; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Beth was predeceased by her parents and a sister, Beverly Sweatt Hawkins.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Sarah Frye Home for its care of Beth in her final years, and the Beacon Hospice for its support.
