CARLSBAD, Calif. — Richard D. Thomas passed peacefully after a short illness on Friday, July 13. Rich was born in Nezperce, Idaho, June 29, 1935, to George Henry and Vera (Rowe) Thomas. He was the youngest of three brothers and was preceded in death by his parents and oldest brother, Stanley (Pat), and middle brother, Vernon (Mitzi) Thomas.

Rich was a Vandal like his brothers, graduating from the University of Idaho in 1959 with a business degree after proudly and honorably serving our country in the U.S. Army. He spent the next 38 years working in the paper products industry, culminating as the managing director of the Asia division for Riverwood International while living in Singapore.

Rich married the love of his life, LaVonne Bell, on April 3, 1960, in Nezperce, Idaho. They established a wonderful life together and truly enjoyed the company of family and friends while traveling the world for work and pleasure. Their adventures allowed them to travel to all seven continents.

Rich, along with his wife Vonnie, were very active at Village Church in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., and volunteered many hours in support of our active-duty service personnel and veterans.

Rich is survived by his wonderful wife of 58 years, Vonnie. Rich will also be truly missed my many lifelong friends and his extended family.

Richard D. Thomas
