LEWISTON — The Lewiston Police Department is taking applications for its next 10-week Citizens’ Police Academy, which kicks off Sept. 4.

The course is designed for people who want an inside look at the day-to-day operations. Police describe it as an opportunity to ask questions about law enforcement, talk about issues in Lewiston and Maine and have the department learn about the concerns of community members.

All but two of the 10 classes will be held at the station at 171 Park St. from 6 to 8 p.m. There is room for 30 people, and preference will be given to Lewiston residents. The program runs through Nov. 6.

An 80 percent attendance rate is required to successfully complete the academy and receive a certificate.

Applications are available in the department’s lobby or can be emailed.
