Recently, U.S. Rep. Bruce Poliquin has been sending out flashy flyers suggesting that the opioid epidemic is over, that his efforts were responsible and that people should call his office to congratulate him. While he has been involved in a number of town hall type meetings and panels, along with other members of Maine’s congressional delegation, the reality is that the opioid epidemic is far from over and many Americans and Mainers still suffer the consequences of that scourge. As a physician, I can attest to that.

Rep. Poliquin should keep his focus on reality and not drift off into a fantasy world that does not exist. That will only hamper efforts to end the crisis.
