AUBURN — Gail A. Howe, 79, of Sweden, Maine, formerly of Shrewsbury, Mass., passed away Monday, Aug. 6, after a brief illness.

She was born Dec. 6, 1938, in Worcester, Mass., the older of two children born to James and Antoinette (DeLaire) Mealey. Gail attended local schools and graduated from South High School in Worcester. She later moved to Shrewsbury, where she raised her family and made countless memories.

In 1985, Gail and the love of her life, Allen, moved to their dream home in Sweden, Maine. Gail worked for many years at Bailey’s Manufacturing in Fryeburg, Maine. She later worked part time at Fryeburg Health Care Center.

She enjoyed day trips and weekend getaways, the beauty of nature and all living creatures. Gail and her husband provided a loving home for many animals over the years. Most recently, her dog, Mia, whom she loved dearly.

Gail is survived by three children: Steven Meserve of Oakham, Mass.; Dawn Meserve of Worcester, Mass.; and Deborah Lagasse and her husband, Melvin, of Bridgton, Maine; five stepchildren: Rebecca Henry; Deborah Walsh; Allen (Dickie) Howe II; Pamela Fenn and her husband, Bruce; and Susanna Bagdis; six grandchildren: Melissa Becvar and her husband, Joshua; Deanna Meserve; Samantha Meserve; Chaz Meserve; Lucas Rogers; and Allanah Lagasse; six great-grandchildren: Brianna, Nicholas, Caitlyn, Trevor, Sarah and Natalie; a great-great granddaughter, Skyelynn; many step-grandchildren; a brother, Michael Mealey, of Poinciana, Fla.; a nephew, Michael Mealey Jr; two nieces: Marlene Rider and her husband, Steven, and Kelli McKee and her husband, Scott; A close friend and neighbor, Todd Bagdis. She was predeceased by her husband, Allen, on Nov. 3, 2010.
