50 Years Ago: 1968

Mrs. Charles Dwight of Auburn was the winner of a blue ribbon in the horticulture division of the 28th annual Flower Show of the Central Maine Garden Club held Tuesday at the Garand Street School, Winslow. Her entry in the invitation division was a calendula. Mrs. Wight and Mrs. Charles Levin of Lewiston were among the women serving on two panels of judges for the show. Other members of the panels were Mrs. Bernard Harris of South Portland, Mrs. Carl Clugston of South Bristol, Mrs. H.H. Mowatt of Bar Mills and Mrs. Garland Davis of Brunswick. The award of merit went to Mrs. Galen Eustis of Waterville, who is well known to local members of the Maine Iris Society, and the tri-color award was won by Mrs. Ruth Wood of the Central Maine Garden Club.

25 Years Ago: 1993

The regular meeting of the First Auburn Senior Citizens was held recently at the Hasty Memorial Armory with Nelson Edwards presiding. Trip chairman, Frances Taylor announced there are still seats available for the mystery trip in October. Prizes were won by Ruth Williams, Marie Goding, Gladys Small, Bill Redmun and Gerald McGllvery. Raffle winners were Ruth Williams, Frances Taylor, Erma Gagnon, Rachel Raven, Frances Wentworth, Ann Marczak, Eunice Johnson, Mary Shaw, Pearl Simmons, Val LaBrie, Connie Ouellette, Pat Edwards, Frances Robitaille, Cecile Lauze, Buzz Edwards, Charlotte Varney, Marie Goding, Hilda Marshall, Annie Demers, Dot Field, Laura Whitman, Lucy Cowles, Gerald McGllvery and Felix Yurkston. At the next meeting on Wednesday, members will go on the annual outing to the Tot Lot in Auburn. In the event of rain, it will be held at the armory. Entertainment for the Sept. 1 meeting will be Ginny Gagne, who will provide a musical program.
