AUBURN — Rene F. Simard, 83, of Lisbon left this world to be in the arms of the Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Hospice House following a short illness. He was born Aug. 25, 1934, in Auburn, son of the late Henri and Antoinette (Reny) Simard. He was raised in Auburn with his sisters and brother.

Rene was a Navy veteran who served during the Korean War. Upon returning, he married Sylvia D. Sturtevent and had three children, Vaughn, Doreen and Glenn. He had a career in textile manufactuing for Quinco Fabrics and Bates Manufacturing. His hobbies included hunting, puttering in his workshops, as well as surfing on his computer. Later in life he married Monita A. Madore of Lisbon until her passing. Most recently he shared his life with longtime partner Dorothy Getchell of Thomaston.

He is predeceased by his first wife, Sylvia, in 1975 and second wife, Monita, in 2001; sisters Clair Cote and Carmen Doyon; brother Paul; and within the past month, Dorothy Getchell.

He is survived by his three children; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and sisters Jean Doyon-Goodwin, Therese Dennis and Pauline Daigle.
