PORTLAND — Merle F. Davis, 71, of Lewiston passed away Monday, Aug. 20, after a brief illness, at Maine Medical Center. He was the husband of Arlana J. (McGraw) Davis.

He was born Jan. 29, 1947, in Lewiston, a son of the late Merle F. and Doris I. (Maddocks) Davis Sr. He grew up in Auburn, attending local schools and graduated from Edward Little High School. Merle left high school in 1964 to serve his country in the U.S. Navy, returning to Auburn in 1967 and eventually graduating in 1972.

He worked in manufacturing for Bell Manufacturing, Miller Industries and Geiger Brothers until his early 50s, and went on to be a truck driver for Yarmouth Lumber before retiring about 10 years ago.

Merle was a member of the United Bikers of Maine until he had to give up his motorcycle. His motorcycle was a very large part of his life. He found many days of joy riding it.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three children: Shane Davis of Falmouth; Kristie Davis-Morin and her husband, Rusty, of Turner; and Chanin Harris and her husband, Paul, of Rochester, New Hampshire. He also leaves eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his sister, Pearl Stanhope, of California. He was also the brother of the late Rosalie Jenkins, who died this past year.
