LEWISTON — The Lewiston CareerCenter, Western Maine Community Action in Lewiston and Oxford Hills/Nezinscot Adult Education are partnering to provide a certified nursing assistant training program starting Monday, Sept. 17.

The state-certified course exceeds the state-required 180 hours of classroom instruction. Prerequisites include a reading test, interview session, a physical within the last year, immunization records and the willingness to dedicate one’s time to a 15-week commitment. Students will receive 20 hours of lab skills and 70 hours of clinical experience in a long-term health care facility.

Successful candidates will sit for the state CNA exam and have the opportunity to interview for a position with health care facility partners. Candidates must pass a Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems reading and math exam, be over 18 years of age, be able to work in the United States and pass necessary background checks.

The 15-week class will run Mondays and Tuesday from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. Clinical time is Thursdays from 2:30 to 10:30 p.m.

There is no charge for those who financially qualify. The course is valued at $1,185.

The CNA student interviews are being conducted at the Adult Education Office at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School in Paris.
