HALLOWELL — The Harlow Gallery, now at 100 Water St., will host nationally-known, award-winning poets Jeffrey Thomson and Christian Barter at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31.

Thomson is a poet, memoirist, translator and editor, and is the author of multiple books including the memoir “fragile,” “The Belfast Notebooks,” “The Complete Poems of Catullus” and the edited collection “From the Fishouse.” “Half/Life: New and Selected Poems” comes out from Alice James Books in 2019. He has been an NEA fellow, the Fulbright Distinguished Scholar in Creative Writing at the Seamus Heaney Poetry Centre at Queen’s University Belfast and the Hodson Trust-John Carter Brown fellow at Brown University. He is currently professor of creative writing at the University of Maine at Farmington.

Barter is the author of three books of poetry, most recently “Bye-bye Land,” winner of the 2017 Isabella Gardner Award. His poetry has appeared in journals including Ploughshares, Georgia Review and The American Scholar and featured on The Writer’s Almanac, Poetry Daily and The PBS Newshour. He has received a Hodder Fellowship from Princeton University, the 2014 Maine Literary Award for Poetry and was the Centennial Poet Laureate of Acadia National Park in 2016. For over 25 years he has worked for the trail crew there as a stone worker, rigger, arborist and supervisor.

The Harlow Gallery hosts the “Bookey Readings” at the Harlow, a poetry series monthly April through November, that has offered spoken word at its best for 25 years. For more information, contact mamabelle@gwi.net.
