LEWISTON — Police charged two more men with engaging a prostitute Thursday as part of an undercover police sting operation in downtown.

Four were charged earlier in the day. All six are accused of soliciting an ndercover officer along Ash Street. The sting occurred across from the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul.

According to police, the two men arrested later Thursday near Horton and Ash streets were:

• Christopher M. Nelson, 55, of Minot, on a charge of engaging a prostitute; and

• William T. Turner, 81, of Auburn, on a charge of engaging a prostitute.

Since the start of the year, police have been collaborating with the Androscoggin County District Attorney’s Office and local social service advocates to address prostitution, especially in inner-city areas.

In March, police arrested three women accused of engaging in prostitution downtown.
