DELAND, Fla. — Daniel “Dan” M. Juneau, 71, of DeLand, Fla., died Friday, July 20, at the Florida Hospital DeLand, surrounded by his family. Dan was born Aug. 3, 1946, in Hartford, Conn., to Maurice and Fernand Juneau.

After graduating from Lewiston High School in 1965, Dan enlisted in the U.S. Army and was selected to complete Warrant Officer Candidate School at Fort Rucker, Ala. After finishing flight school, Mr. Juneau was ordered to Vietnam, where he completed two tours and more than 3.000 hours as a helicopter pilot. For his heroic service, he received a Silver Star, Bronze Star, Distinguished Flying Cross and several commendations.

After returning from Vietnam, Mr. Juneau attended the University of Maine and obtained a degree in criminal justice. For the next 10 years, he worked as a police officer for several cities and municipalities throughout Maine, and later moved to Florida, where he established several businesses. In retirement, he was an active member of the DeLand community.

Mr. Juneau is survived by his four children: Michael Juneau of Jacksonville, Fla.; Kevin Juneau of Daytona Beach, Fla.; Jason Juneau of Greensboro, N.C.; and Danielle Juneau of Lincoln, Neb.; two sisters: Anne Legendre of Lewiston, and Mary Fogg of Avon, Ohio; a brother, Richard Juneau, of Auburn; and 10 grandchildren.

There will be a celebration of his life from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at the American Legion Post 6, 1087 Biscayne Blvd., DeLand, Fla. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. (date and time TBA).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Dan’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
