Sen. Susan Collins appears to be leaning toward approval of Brett Kavanaugh as a Supreme Court justice. I wonder about Collin’s vote on that and also her vote on that unthinkable national budget that President Trump provided. Trump and Collins had a private meeting and, suddenly, Collins decided to vote for his budget. I can well imagine a possibility that the president put pressure on her to vote for the budget if she wanted any further contracts for Bath Iron Works.

Losing contracts for BIW would cripple Maine. Sen. Collins loses either way. So do the people of Maine.

The will of Maine people is moot if legislators are slaves to the executive branch. Executive and legislative — separate branches — should serve as checks and balances, neither to be a slave to the other.
