DEAR SUNSPOTS: This past week someone stole two felted pumpkins out of our 4-H Club display at the Oxford Fair. I want the individual who stole them to know they were made by a 5-year-old who is new to our club. That project was the first project this child has ever displayed in a fair. It would be nice if the child could show the pumpkins in the Fryeburg Fair as planned then keep them forever.

Please do the right thing and take them to the Oxford County 4-H office in South Paris. No questions asked.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I go to the Common Ground Fair in Unity every year and purchase a number of items from Blessed Maine Herb Farm’s tent. I was really looking forward to buying more herbs and teas again this year, but just heard they aren’t going to be there anymore. Can you find out what has happened to that wonderful lady I always buy herbs from?

ANSWER: There will definitely be a void at the fair without Gail Faith Edwards and her contingent in their usual spot. Blessed Maine Herb Farm has had a good run at the Common Ground Fair for nearly 30 years.

According to the farm’s Facebook page, Gail is “simplifying her lifestyle,” so don’t worry, she’s fabulous as always and the products you love are still very much available. As a matter of fact, Gail is holding a special free event Sept. 22-23 at the farm in Athens (near Skowhegan) in honor of the rebel Saint Hildegard von Bingen, the 12th century herbalist, healer, poet, musician and prophetess.

The herbal apothecary will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and there will also be guided garden and trail walks, and live music.

Visitors will have the opportunity to purchase products from the apothecary, handmade crafts and refreshments. Other local vendors are participating. Just like at the fair, there will be free tea! Two presentations on the life and work of St. Hildegard will be given at the schoolhouse. For more information, go to blessedmaineherbs.com.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: We’re blessed with a wonderful vegetable and flower garden. I often put extra vegetables out on a table in front of the house with a “free” sign. Most of the time, the table is empty by day’s end.

We wanted to thank the person who stopped for veggies on Monday, Sept. 17, and left money. That wasn’t necessary, but we thank you! This will be donated to Gardeners Growing Healthy Communities.
