AUBURN — Payroll Management Inc., an Auburn-based company specializing in outsourcing payroll solutions, is moving its corporate headquarters to the Auburn Mall, furthering efforts to revitalize the shopping center.
The space takes the place of five vacant storefronts between BAM Books and TD Bank, and is 2 1/2 times the square footage of the company’s space on Manley Road in Auburn.
The new corporate headquarters, set to open next spring, will not be open to the public, but the transition will allow employees to access the offerings of the mall.
“The staff are excited about the proximity to the mall,” Hillary Dow, marketing manager of Payroll Management, said. “We felt a bit isolated in our last location.”
The move to the Auburn Mall was a logical one for the company, according to Elaine Hemenway, principal chief marketing officer of Payroll Management.
“We made a conscious effort to grow two years ago, and we ran out of room,” she said.
Hemenway said renovating the mall space bypassed the time needed to build new.
The company has 40 employees, with a roaming sales and marketing team of about 10. Hemenway said the move brings potential for continued growth.
“The mall has been very welcoming,” Hemenway said, “and we feel like we made a good decision.”
The company has been based in Auburn since 1989. Hemenway said when the need to move arose, the company did not consider moving outside the Lewiston-Auburn area.
“Lewiston and Auburn has been good to us,” Hemenway said. “When we were looking to expand, we didn’t look outside the community. This is home.”
