DONEGAL, Ireland — Winfield Bowie, 91, of Donegal, Ireland, passed away suddenly in his home Sunday, Sept. 16.
He was born in Auburn on March 1,1927.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah (Sadie) Bowie, Ireland; son, Michael Bowie, and wife, Susan, Poland; daughter, Patricia Taylor, France; and son, Sean Bowie, Ireland.
He was predeceased by his son, Jim Bowie, of Oxford.
He had five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great,-grandchild. He is also survived by two sisters, Marion Bourgoin, Greene, and Janice Martin, Oxford.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and remained an active member of the VFW. He operated Bowie’s Garage in Poland for many years before becoming a welder by profession. His favorite pastime was working on antique autos and tractors, which he was still doing till the day he passed. He was a wonderful husband, father and brother. He will be missed dearly by many.
There will be a graveside memorial service at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at Pine Street Cemetery, New Auburn, followed by refreshments at noon at the VFW, 588 Minot Ave., Auburn.
