LEWISTON — On Tuesday, Oct. 2, Charles “Scott” Honaker passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Born Aug. 22, 1940, in Bluefield, W.Va. He was the youngest of five children, born to Garnard and Cleo (Neal) Honaker. He graduated from Bluefield High School in West Virginia in 1958, where he excelled in baseball and football.

On Feb. 5, 1959, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he met his lifelong friend, Roland Jordan, of Turner. He accompanied Roland home to Turner while on leave from the service during the summer of 1961, where he met his future wife, Carolyn Marsden. The two were married on Aug. 24, 1961, and raised two children, Patricia Gayle and Benjamin Scott.

After the Navy, Scott settled down in Turner, working in Auburn, first at Bates Mill and later at Falcon Shoe Co. He was a member of the Nezinscot Masonic Lodge No. 0101, the Shriners and the Phillip Bryant Post 111 American Legion. He was a Leavitt trustee and also served on the school board, the Budget Committee and was a founding member of the Turner Athletic Association, where he served as a member for 25 years and was a very well-known local coach and umpire. He enjoyed golfing, to which he dedicated considerable time in retirement, even traveling with friends to some of the top golf courses in the country.

He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and the Boston Celtics. In fact, he was often seen on CSN sitting behind the Celtics’ announcers with his lifelong friend, Donny Ricker. He also loved West Virginia, the state and the university, returning yearly to his native Bluefield and cheering on the Mountaineers’ football team with youthful energy. More than anything, Scott loved his family and friends. He was always quick to lend a helping hand or a listening ear to those in need. He would bend over backwards to help those he loved. He was a dedicated father, husband, brother, grandfather, veteran, Freemason and Shriner.

He was predeceased by his parents, Garnard and Cleo; as well as his siblings, Betty, Richard, Kenneth and Gary (Frog).

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, of Turner; children, Patricia of Hampden and Scott of Turner; and his grandchildren, Alex, Anthony, Aaron, Ashton, Ethan and Jared.
