FRYEBURG — Dwain Chase of Wilton was surprised last week with recognition by officials at Fryeburg Fair for his many years of service in the Steers and Oxen Information booth.
On Monday Chase said he has been showing steers and oxen at Fryeburg Fair for 60 years. He has been a daily presence in the information booth during the fair for at least 25 years.
“I answer questions, hopefully get new people started raising steers. It’s a dying art,” he said.
Chase said he is in the booth from 5 a.m. to 8:30 or 9 p.m. except when showing his cattle. This year he had a pair of four year old Chianinas, the world’s largest cattle breed, in the stall next to the booth.
Chase said he also gives a trophy for the best youth teamster in the open show.
