TOPSHAM — Androscoggin Valley Soil and Water Conservation District is holding a forest soil management workshop at the Topsham Public Library, 25 Foreside Road, from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24. This workshop will cover topics such as soil ecology within forests, the importance of logging in Maine, the potential negative impacts from logging and reducing them by practicing sustainable logging practices.

An introduction will be followed by a presentation, closing with a Q&A.

This workshop counts for half-day for Certified Logger Professional credits; one hour, Classification 1 for Maine State Forester credits; and Master Logger credits.

Presenters will be Mike Richard, a state district forester of Oxford County and Ted Wright, the executive director of the Trust to Conserve Northeast Forestlands, who will combine their educational and professional backgrounds in logging and forestry. Registration is free but required by Oct. 17 at 4:30 p.m.
