LEWISTON – Eugene Linwood Greenleaf Jr., of Lewiston, Maine died Oct. 9, 2018, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Gene was born on March 27, 1958 in Lewiston to Eugene L. Greenleaf Sr. and Alberta Small Greenleaf.

He attended Bowdoin schools and graduated from Mt. Ararat High School with the class of 1976. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and graduated from the Sheppard AFB Technical Training Center in the Aircraft Maintenance Specialist program. He served on assignments in England, Florida, and New Hampshire. His career continued as a Production Supervisor for Gates Formed Fiber in Auburn and as a Machinist for shoe manufacturers including Alpha Shoe in Brunswick, Acorn in Lewiston and Pamco Shoe Machinery in Auburn until his illness in July.

Gene loved all sports, especially baseball, which he played and later coached at the youth level for the town of Bowdoin, Maine. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was also a lifelong Red Sox and Patriots fan.

He was predeceased by his grandparents, Harold and Susan Small of Bowdoin, and Linwood and Katherine Greenleaf of West Gardiner; and his father, Eugene Greenleaf Sr. of West Gardiner.

He is survived by his mother, Alberta Greenleaf of Bowdoin; his children, Eugene Greenleaf III and Ashley Greenleaf of Sparks, Nev., and Karina Greenleaf of Lewiston; grandsons, Brad, Gavin, Cade, and Luke; his sister, Amber Grant; brother-in-law, John Grant; niece, Lauren Grant; and nephew, Cameron Grant of Topsham.

He is also survived by his aunts: Laura Owen, Evelyn Tremblay, Faye Davis, Patricia Elwell, and Ethel Small; and uncles, Harold Small Jr. and Ranleigh Elwell Sr.; and many special cousins including, Nancy Tremblay and Harold Small III, who he considered to be his best friends as well.

Family meant everything to Gene and he truly appreciated all of the devoted members of his family who loved and supported him throughout his life, especially during his illness.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Oct. 20 at the West Bowdoin Cemetery, 15-275 West Road, Bowdoin, Maine, followed by a gathering at the West Bowdoin Baptist Church Parish Hall.
